ESG POLICY
Stone Mountain Capital as a socially responsible group recognizes the importance of global sustainability, social and governance issues. Stone Mountain Capital LTD believes to have an impact on the alternative investment industry through its global network of investors and general partners (GPs). As sign of commitment, we established this policy on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues along with becoming a signatory of the UN Principles of Responsible Investing (PRI) on a voluntary basis in March 2020.
PRI is the world’s leading proponent of responsible investments. The principles encourage the understanding of the implications of ESG factors and support the signatories incorporating these issues through an international network of investor signatories. PRI is focused on the long-term interest of its signatories, the financial markets, economies as well as the environment and society as a whole.
We also recognise that applying these Principles may better align investors with broader objectives of society. Therefore, we commit to the following:
Principle 1: We will incorporate ESG issues into investment analysis and decision-making processes.
Principle 2: We will be active owners and incorporate ESG issues into our ownership policies and practices.
Principle 3: We will seek appropriate disclosure on ESG issues by the entities in which we invest.
Principle 4: We will promote acceptance and implementation of the Principles within the investment industry.
Principle 5: We will work together to enhance our effectiveness in implementing the Principles.
Principle 6: We will each report on our activities and progress towards implementing the Principles.
As alternative investment advisor and placement agent, Stone Mountain Capital LTD has a wide and global network of both investors and general partners (GPs). Stone Mountain Capital LTD has created its own scoring methodology for ESG factors to support its investors and GPs. Stone Mountain Capital LTD is able to increase the awareness towards ESG issues for its institutional clients as well as investors and promote the reflection of these issues within the industry. The scoring methodology enables Stone Mountain Capital LTD to assist GPs who seek to enhance their ESG consideration and incorporation. The methodology incorporates various aspects of ESG issues, such as the sustainability of an investment or the effect of a particular investment on the climate in the environmental area. Social issues are incorporated by addressing human rights, such as labour practises, employee health at work and community relations, along with benefits for customers, which includes customer welfare, product quality as well as accessibility and affordability. Governance issues are evaluated through the incorporation of ethics and practises of a business and a reliable risk management solution.
Furthermore, Stone Mountain Capital LTD applies Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) filters to all of its alternative investment strategies and GPs on behalf of investors. Through those, Stone Mountain Capital LTD can ensure that GPs reach a certain level of ESG considerations and can therefore reduce the risk caused by a possibly negative exposure to a particular ESG issue. For investors, Stone Mountain Capital LTD can match the investors’ demand on the ESG consideration with the investment opportunities. Moreover, Stone Mountain Capital LTD can encourage investors to give ESG factors more weight.
